The Post Courier Newspaper (28 May 2026) has reported alarming statistics on mouth cancer in Papua New Guinea.
The Highlands region leads with 68% of recorded cases, followed by Momose (18%), Southern (9%), and New Guinea Islands (5%). Mt Hagen has recorded the highest deaths.
This growing health crisis is linked to lifestyle practices such as betelnut chewing.
It highlights the urgent need for:
