The 10th of July 2024 will go down in the History of the Christian Health Services PNG and the Kudjip Nazarene Hospital as an important day for the Nazarene Health Ministry and CHSPNG. It was a memorable day that unfolded for the Kudjip Nazarene General Hospital staff, the long-awaited months, weeks and days to be put onto the Government Alesco Payroll system came to its fruition. The day witness a total number of 174 staff successfully migrated to the government payroll system during the CHS Alesco Payroll for Kudjip Nazarene General Hospital.

A significant milestone to reach where the 1st batch of the 174 personnel who have already migrated to the government payroll. What this means is that the 1st batch of 174 health workforce of the Nazarene General Hospital will now be paid via the Alesco Payroll System, just like other public servants throughout the country.

The decision for church health workers to be paid through the government payroll system was made in 2013 by the National Executive Council. It took two years for it to be implemented in 2015 when the migration of Christian Health Service educators from its training institutions were put on the government payroll.

Two years later in 2017 the Secretariat staff of the CHSPNG National Office and the Training schools were placed on the Alesco Pay group of CHSPNG. In 2022 the Health Services staff of CHSPNG on the 29th of June 2022 got paid for the first time on the government payroll system (Alesco).

In 2024 a formal directive was issued to have the Kudjip Nazarene Hospital staff put on the Alesco Payroll which saw the launching of this initiative on the 10th of July 2024 after a lot of hard work.

Deputy Secretary Reform and Policy Development Department of Personal Management Mr Ellison Kalimet said during his speech that today, your organisation has grown from strength and with the government support to migrate your health workers onto the government payroll is a clear indication of the government’s commitment to support you through the use of your health facilities.

“I commend the Christian Health Services for the work that you have done in providing the much-needed health services to our people, mostly the two thirds of our population out in the rural areas”, said Mr Ellison.

The launch has culminated with the first 174 health workers for Nazarene General Hospital receiving their pay with alerts later coming in from the banks for those who are on phone banking.

It was a joyful yet emotional moment where the 174 Nazarene General Hospital workforce with their families and the surrounding community expressed their gratitude by shouting, dancing and crying during and after the launching.

The Executive Chairman for CHSPNG Executive Board Mr Japalis Kaiok said that the result of the Alesco Government Payroll system will not change the Vision and Motto for Christian Health Services and your Nazarene General Hospital motto ’We Treat, Jesus Heals”. He encouraged the Nazarene Health workforce to put their focus on the vision and mission of Jesus Christ, for their work ministry as well as for Christian Health Services and Nazarene General Hospital Ministry.

This is a positive way forward for the Nazarene General Hospital and Christian Health Services, for it has marked an era where the Alesco Payroll program has eased the burden or separate payroll system process with the Banks into the new computerised centralization for all government funded salaries.

Mr Joseph Sika, The CEO of Nazarene General Hospital mention during his closing remarks that he is thankful that one of his huge burdens is removed from his shoulder, so that he can place his concerns to look for the operational money for the hospital and not worry about his workforce pay.

The Department of Personal Management will continue to assist the Nazarene Health workforce and its structure, as they continue on to the next phase of implementation to have all their health workers migrated on to the Alesco Government payroll system.
